Composer:

Charlie Parker

Year:

1951

Origin:

Recorded on a session for Clef Records

Style:

Up tempo swing.

Solo Form:

A-B-A-C (32 Bars) [8-8-8-8]

Key:

Bb Major

Harmony/Overview:

The harmony of the solo section is based on the changes of the Robin/Whiting/Harling standard "Beyond the Blue Horizon". The main theme however is Charlie Parker's own original creation and is only 8 bars  long. A pedal on 2 and 4 is used during the head, and the melody begins with a pickup on beat 4 which can make things seem rather ambiguous at  first. The Charlie Parker Omnibook incorrectly states that the pedal used during the head is a Concert Ab, although this is incorrect as it is a Concert F (V of the key).

Recordings:

This is by far one of Charlie Parker's lesser known compositions. He recorded it on a session for Clef records in 1951, and two takes were recorded on the date. It has seldom been recorded by other musicians since and less than a handful of other interpretations exist.
