1948

First recorded on session for Blue Note Records
Style:
Swing, usually played at a medium-up tempo.
Form:
A-A-B-A (32 Bars) [8-8-8-8]

Eb Major
Harmony/Overview:
The harmony of this composition is based on the Jesse Greer/Raymond Klages standard "Just You, Just Me". While the harmonic progression remains rather conventional aside from a few reharmonizations, Monk uses a very angular melody line with unpredictable rhythms to punctuate the changes.
Recordings:
This song has been recorded over 150 times to date. Thelonious Monk first recorded it on a 1948 session for Blue Note Records, and he would also keep it in his repertoire well throughout his career leaving behind over 20 live recordings. It would eventually begin to gain traction as a standard, and it has since become a staple in the repertoire.
